Tania Goudas

Psychotherapist, LCSW

My name is Tania Goudas. I am a Psychotherapist with over 15 years of experience working with adults, adolescents, children, couples and families in New York City.

My approach to psychotherapy involves engaging clients in self-examination on a biological, psychological, and emotional level with an understanding that each client is shaped by a particular societal and environmental reality that is constantly evolving. Life does not always cooperate with our plans and goals. Often we are thrown off course by crippling events and changes that can hinder our daily functioning, damage our relationships, and cause our work and social lives to suffer. We are left feeling confused, vulnerable, angry, sad, or stressed.

A large component of the therapeutic process is learning to successfully adapt and manage life stressors so that each client feels healthy in mind and body. The essential function of psychotherapy involves knowing oneself better and learning to cope with adversities. Psychotherapy involved deconstructing negative behavior patterns and perceptions that cloud daily lives. I work together with my clients to replace these with new beliefs and behaviors that help individuals experience a more fulfilling life.

By taking an eclectic approach to psychotherapy, I integrate the most effective techniques from a range of theorists and treatment methodologies that consider the individual needs of each client. The therapeutic work is driven by each client’s specific goals and desires, and I help each client to achieve these goals by developing skills and coping strategies for overcoming life’s stressors. The focus is always on tailoring the therapy to the needs of the individual and moving at a speed at which the client feels comfortable.
